John Pontarelli
Founder & CEO

John independently founded Proscape in 1995 with one truck, a used lawnmower, and a few hand tools.
His work ethic and care for his clients and employees proved instrumental in branching the company out
to different sectors; in 2002 the company was incorporated offering a multitude of different services.
John’s wealth of knowledge from his years of experience in the industry has allowed him to grow
Proscape into a national award-winning landscaping company. Under John’s leadership and expertise
Proscape has flourished; now a company of over 50 employees with a fleet of over 20 vehicles and the
latest technology in tools, equipment, and software. Proscape continues to grow under John’s direction
and motivation.

Jessica Beattie

Jessica earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Johnson and Wales University in Providence,
RI. Shortly after graduation she started with Buckley Heating and Cooling as the Controller. Her role
grew quickly as the current CFO decided to move on to another company within a year of Jessica
starting with the company and was never replaced. Jessica stepped into that position as well as
managing HR until she decided to part ways six years later. During this time, Jessica earned her MBA
from Western Governor’s University.
Jessica joined Proscape in 2013 as Controller and has since taken the executive leadership role of CFO.
Her wealth of experience and skill in budgetary management, forecasting and in-depth financial analysis
are invaluable.

Matthew Palin
Business Development

Matt graduated from the University of RI in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture.  He made his start in the landscaping industry while still in high school and continued on interning through college as a field laborer and plant nursery specialist.  Matt’s first job out of school was working in the irrigation, landscape lighting, and design areas before bringing his impeccable design skills to Proscape in 2015. 

Matt has been with Proscape since 2015; from start to finish he will discuss and determine the needs of
a property to provide a design and plan that will produce a pristine finished product. Matt’s years of
experience in landscape architecture and design is an invaluable asset that allows him to create
landscape construction and enhancement projects that will beautify any property.

Charles McHugh
Account Manager

Charles has 39 years of experience working in the landscaping industry.  After attending both CCRI and URI; he owned and operated his own business for 22 years before joining forces with Proscape to help improve our client experience.   Charles is a licensed pesticide applicator in RI, a member of RINLA and The RI Tree Council and is also a frequent volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House as well as volunteering for the Boston Marathon. 

As one of two primary customer contacts for contracted accounts, Charles maintains positive customer relations while proactively managing properties. He is the liaison between customers and cross-functional internal teams, ensuring the timely and successful completion of projects. As if that wasn’t enough, Charles also performs quality control site inspections and produces technical reports.

Josh Wheeler
Landscape Architect | Project Manager

Josh graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor’s of Landscape Architecture degree with a minor in Biology.  He has been in the industry for 17 years and has worked with some of the leading design firms and construction companies in Rhode Island.  Josh’s accomplishments include an Award-Winning Design at the Newport Flower Show, A License in Landscape Architecture acquired in 2008 as well as being a former President for the RI Chapter of Landscape Architects.  Aside from his career Josh is and avid soccer player and enjoys coaching his children in soccer and lacrosse.

Josh is project manager for Proscape’s Landscape Construction, Enhancement and Maintenance divisions.   He is responsible for product procurement, scheduling of crews and on site job management.  Josh’s organization skills have proved to be invaluable in creating an efficient work schedule that maximizes our resources and increases our customer service quality.

Dane Buell

Dane has served in several capacities over his 38 years in the industry. For 18 years Dane was a Director
with SavATree where he led the growth of their General Tree Care business, other responsibilities
included safety and risk management and fleet management. He also started the consulting division of
the business. After that, Dane moved on to BrightView, serving as VP of Tree Care Services
internationally. He also headed up their irrigation and agronomy divisions. During his ten years at the
company, he served on the executive team and aided in BrightView’s transition from private to public.
After leaving BrightView, Dane started with Monster Tree Franchise as Chief Operating Officer where he
lead processes and system development to set the company up for acquisition.
Dane joined the Proscape team in the role of Chief Operating Officer and is a true team leader to all
divisions and sectors of the company. He is focused on constantly implementing new training to keep
the team updated on the newest techniques and technology to always keep Proscape as the leader of
the industry in New England. His wealth of knowledge and experience has been incremental to
Proscape and is second to none.

Ariana Deus

Ariana graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2017 and is now pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree
in Business Administration at Southern New Hampshire University. She has worked as an administrative
assistant in two busy offices building her customer service, multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
These skills have allowed Ariana to create a more organized and efficient working environment here in the office. Ariana is the person on the other end of the phone when you call, she provides a friendly and informative customer service that our company

Mike Mello

Mike, the newest member of our team, has been an industry professional since 1984.  At that time he has specialized in turf management and horticulture with strong, continuous training and education in both areas.  Over the years Mike has had different opportunities to grow his skills holding such positions as Commercial Account Manager, Tree Care Division Manager, General Manager, Regional Commercial Sales Manager and has now joined the Proscape team as Head of Commercial Business Development.

Mike is responsible for all new client relationships.  He works closely with new and potential clients to determine the customer’s objectives to ensure Proscape will meet their expectations upon the commencement of the contract.  Mike strategizes with the client creating a strong foundation in order to begin the long-lasting partnership Proscape prides itself on.
